Established in 1997 as part of Yıldız Technical University, our faculty was the first of its kind in Turkey to be founded under the name “Faculty of Art and Design.” Embracing an interdisciplinary approach that integrates technology with art and design through the opportunities afforded by a technical university, our faculty has pioneered many firsts in our country across all its departments.
With 8 distinct departments of art and science under 3 departments (Art, Music, and Communication and Design), our faculty aims to educate individuals capable of serving all disciplines required in the art and design sectors, both in our country and internationally. Through these eight distinct educational programs, we aim to cultivate individuals who can integrate the concepts of art and design with knowledge and skills; who are open to innovation; who can develop their creativity and express their artistic vision through diverse artistic methods and aesthetic research; who closely follow artistic, technological, and scientific developments; produce original and experimental works and projects utilizing both traditional materials and techniques as well as the opportunities offered by advanced technology; have internalized ethical values; possess social, historical, and cultural awareness to contribute to national and universal values; are sensitive to the natural and historical environment, who recognize and question social dynamics and can play a role in social transformation; and who are inclined toward research and interdisciplinary work—the artists, designers, and arts and culture managers of the future. In addition to the course content in our current curricula, we bring our students together with industry experts through concerts, seminars, and workshops, and we encourage them to conduct field studies (at museums, fairs, biennials, etc.) off-campus.
Through Erasmus agreements, we enable our students to receive educational support from schools in Europe, and through the Mevlana and Farabi agreements, from various other institutions.
Guided by Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s “A nation deprived of art has one of its lifelines severed,” we serve with motivation and pride as part of the Yıldız Technical University family—a leader in every field—driven by the desire to nurture artists, designers, and leaders who will shed light on our country and our people.
